SMSA Architectural Services is worked together with Compassion Coalition to construct a new and expanded Bargain Grocer on Lincoln Avenue in Utica. The expansion allows the store to meet the increased demands of their diverse customer base in downtown Utica, providing easy access to affordable, fresh, healthy foods. Proceeds from the locally run, inner-city grocery store maintain operations and help to sustain Compassion Coalition, a nonprofit organization that works to help alleviate poverty and its effects in our community.

SMSA provided Architectural Design Services for a 13,000 sf grocery Store located in West Utica. The location of the store was a crucial part to the mission of the store’s existence. It provided wholesome and affordable food for individuals living within a food dessert. Design of the site required careful attention to traffic flow within the site and the
neighboring streets, working with the city to coordinate utilities with city infrastructure construction, and efficiency of design within a slender site.
Included in the design of the store was retail space, a walk-in cooler &
freezer, storage, employee breakroom, office space, a loading dock and a commercial kitchen.
